Marks of the rasp seem to be visible on the face of the righthand figure and we know from other examples on the Ara Pacis that the rasp was often used on skin.
The incised irises and pupils in this figure's eyes were probably add later. These alterations are usually dated to the Hadrianic period, sometimes to Late Antiquity.
