Method
Angle: Vertical (90°)
Force: Gentle
Description
The background is worked with the point chisel to a relatively flat surface.

4. Toolmarks

Process
Rough shaping
Tool
Flat Chisel
Method
Angle: Shallow (40-50°)
Force: Medium
Description
The drapery and basic form of the Nike have been defined with the flat chisel. Here the carver is working from the front of the stone inwards finishing each detail on the way. For this reason the drapery around the figure's waist is much more finished than the deep grooves in the drapery around her legs.
